Love of reading starts with rich classroom libraries. My classroom library is the center of my curriculum as I use reader's workshop and Sheltered Popular Literature. My students self-select, read, and discuss in literary circles and reader's conferences to reflect on text. Books will be available for checkout for students to take home, as many of my language minority students do not have access to books in English at home. This collection is inspired by my students' interests. Sports, mystery, teen drama, fantasy: there is something for all my diverse students to read and love. This collection of books includes comics and high-interest/low-reading level books to lure new readers into a reading habit. The goal of this project: every child -even the most reluctant reader- will get exposure to engaging books, good reading role models, and discussion of literature as a lens to learn more about the world around them. Pleasure reading is also a well-researched means of developing English language and literacy my students need to survive and thrive in US schools.
