Young children need to constantly be exposed to words and reading. In fact, research shows that children who are exposed to books at a young age become stronger readers. I believe in center-based, child chosen activities. My students can choose the center they would like to be at during the day and I would like to incorporate a listening center to continue to expose them to literacy. For many of the children, school is the only place they are exposed to books. I have always loved reading and valued the importance of literacy with my own family and want to continue to encourage children to love reading. With this listening center, students will have ownership in their reading and will improve their book handling skills as well. Having the wobble cushions will also allow the children to sit and focus throughout the day.
