Our program's goal is to increase global competence in our students by tutoring K-12 students in Milwaukee Public Schools that are refugees from Myanmar and Syria. This project will help cover the cost of monthly bus transportation to a tutoring center in Milwaukee that works with K-12 students that are classified as refugees from Myanmar and Syria so my students can tutor students. In helping develop global competence in our students, we hope to integrate knowledge of the world and the skill of application with the disposition to think and behave productively. Global competence is not restricted to knowing about other cultures and other perspectives. In addition to knowledge of the world, a globally competent citizen exhibits habits like critical thinking, rational optimism, innovation, empathy, and awareness of the influences of culture on individual behavior and world events.

About my class
