Every student deserves an opportunity for learning through the use of relevant cultural resources in creative ways. Each and every student I work with has a different cultural and personal background that we don't always fully know or understand. It is my goal to provide ample resources, opportunities, and support for students of all ages in my school (K-5) through the use of creative and relevant materials. Students learn through explicit direct instruction, guided practice, and repetitive independent practice. Through the use of the white-board table and dry erase markers, my students will be able to follow along with direct instruction, guided practice, and complete independent practice while just writing on their table with a dry erase marker. Students LOVE dry erase marker and I think a white-board table would provide even more opportunity for students to work out and solve problems, as well as save on resources, such as smaller whiteboards or paper and pencil. This is another opportunity for me to be able to teach my students a lesson about resources and how important is to utilize resources that are also environmentally friendly. Another piece of this project that I am asking donations for is the TIME magazine subscriptions for my students. As mentioned before, we live in a culturally diverse world where our students are constantly exposed to social media, news, and other forms of media that affect them in different ways. The TIME for Kids magazine subscription would be used in my classroom as a tool to teach students about the things that are going on the world around us. It would allow students the opportunity to practice their reading skills, comprehension skills, and skills needed in order to have appropriate conversations about their opinions, based on background knowledge and what they will be learning about.
