Students respond to choice. I want to provide that in my classroom as much as possible. These items will give them a choice in how they best learn in the class. I want to foster a love for learning and reading that will lead to lifelong learners. I will allow students to decide where they sit and what they sit on while they will also have the opportunity to select a book that best fits their interest. I get to teach important skills and they have more responsibility in their learning. It's a win-win and who does not like that? I am requesting flexible seating options such as: oversized chairs, stability balls, floor pillows, and bouncy bands for chairs. I am also asking for various fiction novels to further provide choice for literacy circles and novel studies. It is my belief that students are more likely to get lost in a book that they love if the are comfortable where and how they sit. Think about it. Do you have a favorite place to read?
