Dealing with large, complex numbers with only your mind along with pencil and paper can be tedious and more challenging than needed. Small arithmetic mistakes can be very frustrating and lead to a lack of understanding. By using tools such as computers and calculators, students can eliminate some of the mistakes and focus on learning new concepts. Technology is a great tool that helps students process and apply a variety of mathematical concepts. I use technology on a regular basis to solve real world problems involving the math room contexts. It is these types of problems that show students the need for understanding.
