The classroom is composed of manily Latino students whose first language is Spanish. Many times when we are receiving gifts like books the students only have the option of choosing an English book. Our goal in our school is that each student can develop their first language and incorporate English as their second language. It is difficult to do that when there are not enough resources for them to read in their language. By providing students with books in their language, their grade levels, and their interest they are able to enhance their vocabulary and their comprehension.
If a student is not able to read by the third grade, their path can lead them into incarceration. It is important that we provide the reading materials that students are interested at a young age and in whatever language they want. Doing so we will give them a better future.
