My students deserve a variety of resources to learn how to process nonfiction text. These subscriptions will provide high quality magazines on topics that matter to my students. I want them to know what it might be like to ride a camel across the Sahara, or dive off the Great Barrier Reef. These magazines are engaging, age appropriate, with vivid images. The issues are also available digitally, which will bring each issue to life. Videos are embedded in the digital issues, which further enrich the experience. These magazines will transform the teaching and learning in our classroom! The topics available through these resources are relevant to my young learners! For example, a recent issue of Science Spin identified why the bee population is diminishing. These are current events that my students care about, and need to be aware of! The students will receive weekly magazines they can interact with at school, as well as home. Unfortunately, many of my students do not have access to appropriate reading materials at home. These magazines will be wonderful to share with families, as well as inspire my students to learn more about a topic. I can hear the rich discussions that will take place at the dinner table because of their excitement for these magazines! I can see children reading them to their siblings before bed! This project is what my children need to fully engage in reading nonfiction and learning about the world around them. Thank you for your consideration of this project!
