I teach a fourth/fifth grade classroom in a low income neighborhood in Lemon Grove, CA (just east of San Diego). The population at the school is very culturally diverse, and I am proud to say they respect each others' differences well. Our school has been extensively trained in using visual and performing arts throughout the curriculum. This arts focus gives our students a more complete and joyful school experience. Drawing, painting, singing, dancing (movement) are seen frequently at San Miguel Elementary. Team teaching is important at our school to support all learners. I work with struggling readers part of the day and with a regular classroom the rest of the day.
