I am requesting children's literature to compliment a math and a literacy program for my kindergarten students. I am implementing Tara West's curriculum in my classroom. Her curriculum requires many texts that will be the perfect guide for my students. I have already begun teaching with this program and have seen tremendous results with my students. My students are SO excited to learn now! Everything we do in this curriculum gives them a real-life connection to math and literacy....and they think it's fun! I have been purchasing these books out of my own pocket. There are many more books needed for the program, and assistance from DonorsChoose would be a wonderful benefit to my students. Every book and every lesson is based upon Balanced Literacy...even Math! Each of these books will be the basis of our theme and unit for the week. Some of our weekly themes will include: moon, friendship, caring, chicken life cycle, etc. These themes will each have at least 2 books to go along with them. We will look deeply into each book, asking questions, and most importantly relating what we are learning to life for these kids. We focus on higher level thinking (Jacob's Ladder) within each story. We learn new vocabulary. We use these texts to talk with our friends and strengthen our oral skills. We will write, write, and write some more! Our writing projects would not be possible without these books and the instruction that goes along with them. I am thankful that you are considering this project.
