Because our students come from schools all over the city of Milwaukee, we often struggle to build relationships. These items will help to build my chest of materials to classroom lessons to help us to work as a team. Next year, our Freshman Academy will work to help our 9th grade students feel more connected to the school building. All of these items will work to further this mission. Additionally, I will use some of the items in a small group setting to help students who have experienced trauma. We will work on mindfulness strategies and build coping strategies. The thumb balls, board games, and conversation cards will help us get to know each other and feel more comfortable being part of the group together. The glass jars, glitter, and glue will be used to make Mindfullness Jars; when students need time to cool down, they can shake the jar and breathe while watching the glitter settle. The stress balls will also help students to cope when they feel agitated in class. In our large group settings, we will use the hula hoops, platform stilts, and bean bags to do low ropes activities that will help us to learn to work as a team. The name tags will help us to remember each others names before we are able to memorize them. Also, the file folders will help us to keep our papers organized each week. Without your assistance, these projects cannot happen!
