Digital storytelling is combining the art of telling stories with a variety of multimedia. We will use iMovie on the iPads to record their stories. I want to challenge students to really think about their story elements like character and setting, and the descriptive language they need to convey their messages. The Cricut will help students to great a tangible version of their story elements to include with their digital stories.
This will bring a new design element to digital storytelling for students. Students will make inferences from their writing to create the props they will use in their stories. The great thing about using the Cricut is that students can create their own customizable designs for their stories and be able to reuse them in the future. Whether it is vinyl cutouts that they designed for a stop motion story or iron tranfers to make costumes to bring their character to life, the Cricut is versatile enough to fit our needs. We will be able to also incorporate math concepts like measurements and scale into the creation of their designs.
