At my school, the students can't afford to buy new novels every year, so the school owns 60, or so, copies of the novels and they stay at the school. The teachers are forced to use the same handful of novels sets year after year. Because of that, a lot of the books are old and in disrepair. They are falling apart or are discolored, which tends to turn the students off from reading them before they even start. It also makes a lot of the students unmotivated to read them, which then leads to other problems for the students. I only have the school's handful of books to choose from, and we haven't been able to buy new books in years (lack of funding). By getting new novels, I want to be able to peak my students' interests in reading. Then, hopefully, I'll be able to get them engaged to do different, fun projects that incorporate writing as well as reading. I want to start out with three different sets of books, so I can offer these books, as well as some of our more popular school books, to my students. They will get a greater variety and options in the novels available.
