My preschoolers and I work hard to promote social emotional skills, which help prepare them for kindergarten. I am always looking for hands on experiences that will enhance the way they learn about the world around them. Young learners such as my preschoolers tend to learn best through play and pretending, acting out real life experiences. They learn how to work together, express their feelings, create friendships, and discover community and more. Having plenty of materials and items that promote our children’s social emotional skills will make their experiences more meaningful. Providing materials such as grocery carts, and a puppet theater will not only engage children in social interactions, but also promote math and language skills. Our children also love to take on community roles and what better way to do that than with costumes. They are then able to really get into character and be more engaged in their work. The more engaged a child is in their work the more meaningful and lasting affect it will have on them.
