This year, we will be reading many culturally relevant books. The students use laptops in order to research authors and subjects. They write essays based on the research. We, as teachers, are attempting to teach them 21st century skills. I can't tell you how many times we had to have the students write out essays on paper. They need to start typing now, in order to prepare for their future. The internet is an invaluable resource, and if they aren't learning how to research and look up credible information for their projects, they won't be able to compete for jobs in the future. The internet offers a multitude of online language learning possibilities for these immigrants and refugees.

About my class
