The materials that I am requesting will be used for a variety or purposes. First and foremost, they are an engaging way to help students learn math. The students will enjoy working with their peers in partners or small groups while using these manipulatives. These materials are not only fun for students, but provide concrete examples and practice for students that may be struggling with fractions and number sense. Additionally, these materials will help encourage deeper thinking and stronger conversations about mathematical reasoning. Students will need to strategize and use logical thinking to work through problems. This will help students identify that everyone thinks differently, and there are many different ways to find a solution in math. Discussing these ways will help students build their number sense and grow as mathematicians. Students are truly their own best teacher, and by providing them with opportunities to work together to solve and build their number sense, we are allowing them to see the impact numbers have in the world around us!
