I am looking forward to teaching first graders in the fall! These 6 and 7 year olds will engage in activities that integrate social studies and science content with language arts and math skills. These lessons will help them become proficient in decoding words, writing sentences and stories, and in computing basic mathematical concepts. Their social-emotional needs will be addressed by employing behavior modifications that align with their unique psychosocial and developmental stages. Every student will be honored for their individual needs and gifts. The classroom environment will foster a community of acceptance and responsibility. Students will be encouraged to set personal goals that reflect their interests as well as academic and interpersonal needs. The schoolwide adoption of PBIS will be interwoven into the routine and structure of the class environment to encourage respectful, responsible, and safe behavior.
