Some of my students are English Language Learners. They need repetitive practice to learn basic English speaking sounds and skills. If the parent at home is non-English speaking, then the child is not getting the constant repetitions on a daily basis. With this iPad, the student will be able to play games with the letters, manipulate the letters and sounds that they are working on, as well as gain knowledge and confidence through the constant repetition that they desperately need. The majority of prison inmates have less than a 3rd grade education. Research shows that a student that is not on grade level by the 3rd grade will never be able to catch up to their peers or gain reading knowledge above the 3rd grade. For us to have successful, productive citizens within our communities, we must give them the education that they deserve.
