Because I work in a school district that is so diverse, I have numerous students that aren't able to afford school supplies. The students I have are at an age where they're starting to work, but many are giving money to their families to help pay for bills at home. Having things as simple as pencils, notebooks, paper, scissors, and glue can mean the difference between doing well in a class and struggling. These school supplies can mean even more than just an art project. Interactive grammar notebooks have been proven to help students become more organized, include all learning styles, and give students a resource to refer back to. Furthermore, they inspire creativity, as students are given the options to cut and color and glue and create, because creativity helps lessons to "stick".
