When our school began new 21st century skill initiatives, our teachers, students and parents worked hard to raise money for every student to have a Chromebook! It has been a wonderful journey finding new & innovative ways to incorporate a set of 30 computers into my math teaching. The students LOVE to use technology while learning new skills, but feel like they need the right tools. The wave of the future is computer programming through coding. My students use code.org regularly to build their programming, divergent thinking, & innovation skills. "I wish we could use a mouse!" is a common phrase I hear in my classroom as the students are engaged in technology while using the touch pad on the Chromebooks. They also get frustrated at not being able to hear their own computer. At the moment, we share headphones, taking turns with which students get the good ones. My students and I would like for each of them to have the accessories needed to maximize the effectiveness of the technology we already have.
