The Rainelle Agriculture Learning Center is a high tunnel where elementary students, teachers, local veterans and Master Gardeners work together to grow produce for the community, which is located in a food desert. In the past year, the donation of produce to senior citizens has been especially helpful since many lost their home and transportation in the flood. Also, students are learning to see rain positively again as it waters their plants, and are inspired by growing something at a time when sadness surrounds their community. The ALC is currently looking for donations of specific seeds and supplies needed to expand the ALC and grow more produce. The ALC needs supplies such as biodegradable weed-barriers, shelving units to hold additional plants and heating blankets to protect against frost in the winter. The ALC is also looking for seeds such as raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and any root vegetables. The ALC is a great resource for RE and the entire surrounding community. A little bit of help can go a very long way in helping to ensure the future sustainability of the Rainelle Agricultural Learning Center for years to come!
