I am a speech language pathologist in three early childhood schools who focuses on early intervention services. I provide speech tutoring (RtI) to students with speech and language concerns prior to a special education referral. In order to qualify for preschool in my district you have to qualify based on low socioeconomic status, military service, foster placement, or English as a second language. I am the first step in the process of special education services. I work with any child in the school through general education services, classroom support, and parent training. My class generally is 3-6 students at a time focusing on specific academic language skills. I incorporate specific speech sounds into lessons, fluency strategies for children who stutter, and language enhancement through narrative storytelling activities.
