Chromebooks will add much needed technology for students to explore their interests. Students in my gifted resource class are curious, self-driven, and motivated to learn about topics that interest them. These topics vary greatly. Although we have plenty of books and some computers in our classroom, Chromebooks would allow more students the opportunity to research intriguing topics and share their learning with fellow students. Passion Projects are student-selected research projects, which create purposeful learning opportunities and self-development, much like the innovative work environment at Google. Students compose focus questions to drive their research. The research process then begins as students use books and on-line resources to investigate their topic on a deep level. Next, students will use the information gathered during their research to create a unique presentation. These presentations can be in the form of web pages, slideshows, info-graphics, brochures, stop-motion animation, etc. the possibilities are endless! Finally, students share their presentations, teaching others what they have learned.
