Students will need access to research tools such as Chromebooks that will provide the vast amount of information on bees, access to local business that could donate supplies and a tool to communicate with the world about our goal to help save the bees. Students will use Chromebooks to gather, analyze, evaluate a variety of sources to refurbish our outdoor classroom to a place that fosters learning for students and harbors a home for the bees. This project will develop as the students begin learning about bees. They will need to research what bees do and why their extinction is considered a world crisis. With that knowledge they will need to formulate a plan to update our current outdoor classroom to a bee oasis which will contain the needed plants to support the bees. Currently our outdoor classroom is a wooden structure with about 12 wooden benches. Many of the benches have deteriorated by nature. Along with their plan to incorporate a variety of plants for bees, students will also need to use their mathematical knowledge to calculate measurements for new benches and the amount of stain needed to rejuvenate the wood. Though this project will be taking place in our ELA classroom, all of our subjects will be needed to understand the project. The history of bees, the science of a bees life cycle, the math for calculating prices and amounts and finally ELA to communicate this need to local business for support. Right now our access to Chromebooks is limited and needs to be enhanced in order for all of our students to participate in this project. We currently have 81 5th grade students and a set of 20 Chromebooks. This project will hopefully not only inform our students but our community of the crisis the bee population
