My students need gloves, fences, garden kits and other garden materials. At our school, we would like to create a hands-on learning opportunity for students to explore the question, “Where does food come from?” The students will design and grow their own community garden in order to answer this question. Using our outdoor space, we will provide opportunities for students to learn about the plant life cycle, how plants and animals depend on one another, and the benefits of eating nutritious foods. Students will have opportunities to watch the life cycle of plants in an outdoor community garden. This garden will be cared for by students during the school year, with activities continuing into the summer with weekly garden days for families to participate in. Growing our own food will also teach students respect, responsibility, and the value of hard work.
