As it is now, my students sit in desks and chairs all day and struggle to stay focused. I want my students to be able to choose their seating option to understand what works best for them as an individual. Our school is located in a suburban town in Southern California. My class consists of 9 wonderful students ranging from 4-7 years old. They each have their strengths and challenges, but one thing that is consistent is their desire to learn! They do need help in staying engaged and sustaining their motivation in our learning. Our school promotes a strong emphasis on reading and writing. We work daily on independent writing workshops as well as working up to independent reading stations. My students would benefit from a variety of seating options including reading pillows, fluffy pillows, wobble chairs, scoop seats, soft seat cushions, and plastic stack stools. I am so excited to see them grow as both students and individuals. My students will become motivated to work in their independent work stations when they can choose their seating option. I have read various articles regarding the positive benefits that offering flexible seating options can have on a classroom as well as developing student's independence and confidence.
