These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and my students are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind, the characters in each book reflect the diverse makeup of my class. I would like to connect my students to characters, stories, and challenges that they can relate to. When students read and look at books with characters who look like themselves, they feel valued; their lives and stories are important. Many of the books that are currently in my classroom library are wonderful but lack diverse characters. Giving my students more books that reflect their own lives not only opens endless possibilities for their young minds but will in turn inspire them to do great things in the future.
