My students are with me because they need extra support. I teach several third and fourth graders who cannot read at all and they hate reading because it is such a struggle. I want my students to learn to love reading, and providing a comfortable and inspiring environment of those who support them is the first step. I've selected a bright, heavy-duty rug that I won't have to replace every year and seating that these kids will actually fight over (don't worry, they'll all have a place to make a cozy bum). I will be doing guided reading, read alouds, silent readings, and phonics lessons from here. I want this corner of my room to be so inviting that the kids can't wait to sit there and open a book. By the end of the year, my goal is to create reading fluency in all students, even those who cannot read a single word right now.
