Students need choice and movement. It is my goal to minimize behaviors and maximize independent work by giving my class the option of alternative seating. Wobble stools and ball chairs will give the students options. When students are presented with option and opportunity, they are more likely to feel success because they can move and have choice. The students are able to feel as if they have a say in how they learn. This year, I have given my students the option of laying on the floor or working at their desks, and I couldn't believe how many students chose not to work in their chair. And guess what? They were working harder, faster, and more independent. I couldn't believe the focus. Alternative seating gives my students the ability to choose what learning style works best for them to do their best job working independently. As first grade students, we are learning to learn. One way to do our best learning is with options! Please help our classroom build options needed to do our best learning.
