Our school designs 2 week J Term workshops that are tailored to student interests. I have many 8th graders who are passionate about animals and want to be vet techs or veteranarians. So I've designed a two week project around animal behavior and animal anatomy. One of the activities that I would love for my students to do is a mammalian dissection. Not only will this be super engaging and hands on for them, it will also be a rigorous preparation for freshman year biology lab when they get to college! Students will be lead through a thorough mammalian dissection with this carolina lab kit. We will pause in between each body system and learn specifics about the structure and function of each. For example, the students will learn about the 4 chambered heart and circulation, then spend a day dissecting the heart and the major artieries.
