Since I have started teaching English, I have discovered an unsettling trend among my high schoolers; they all hate to read - or at least, they think they do. I would like to shift my teaching to better reflect today's students. They are students who want to learn and read and think, but they want to see themselves in the literature, and providing a culturally-diverse classroom library will allow them to do just that, and, in turn, become lifelong readers and lovers of literature. I would like to provide a variety of different texts to implement literature circles in my classroom, so my students can choose what they would like to read but also have the opportunity to discuss what they are reading with classmates.
