I am requesting culturally relevant books for my students who are learning English. I would love to give my students in my English Language Development (ELD) class access to books that will not only inspire and entertain them, but also support them in their journeys as Emergent Bilinguals. I selected these books with the hope that my students will be able to see themselves reflected in the stories (linguistically, too) in addition to learning about and celebrating the stories of other communities. I plan on using these books in an intentional way — both to build on students' overall fluency practice but also provide models for students to write their own narratives. And as a new teacher, this would also help me build my classroom library for future students. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!
