In the heart of Appalachian Coal Country, our resources have declined from "barely keeping our heads above water" to a destitute school system. Our state is in terrible shape. Our school budget is cut every year. However, in true southern style, we keep our heads up and make it work. We struggle to keep the few sports teams that we have in supplies. Then, a group of girls started a campaign with all of the teachers, begging for a volleyball team. After two years of begging, I finally agreed to help. Me. The most uncoordinated, nonathletic teacher in the building. I officially played my junior year of high school. I also had a volleyball class as an elective in college. So, having nothing but love in our hearts for each other and a new challenge, I bid on the job and we began. The principal said I can give you $350.00. OK. sure I said. That should be plenty to get what we need. Oh. was I mistaken!
