We are asking for flexible seating options in our classroom such as wobble stools, an area rug for floor work, and stability balls. Studies have shown that the link between physical activity and academic growth is undeniable. Through the use of flexible seating, kids will immediately burn more calories and use excess energy leading them to focus more on the learning at hand. Students are able to move naturally without distraction! Giving kids the ability to choose the method of seating that works best for them helps students take ownership of their learning. This type of seating is much more developmentally appropriate for elementary aged children than the typical desks and chairs we have been using forever! When looking at many forward-thinking corporations such as Google, their work environments are extremely flexible. Flexible seating helps lead to more collaboration and problem solving.
