All adults and students will be reading the same novel to begin to exchange ideas about literature. It will create a bond between kids, parents, and staff and a positive school-wide atmosphere for reading. Studies have shown that a shared reading will help students listen better and longer, build bigger vocabularies, understand concepts more clearly, and feel positive about both books and learning. In addition, reading the same book across three grade levels will help spark school-wide conversation and build a new community of readers. Furthermore, research shows that this program can even help address low literacy rates and prevent high school drop outs.
