Blocks are a foundational toy for children both at home and in the classroom. Building creative creations, stacking, knocking the stacks over, all of the above! The blocks in our classroom are very old and hard to clean. New blocks would inspire our builders' imaginations to reach new heights. Developmentally, blocks help children improve their fine and gross motor skills, inspire conversations with peers or teachers about sharing, and inspire imaginative play. With blocks, children can integrate their own constructions into pretend play scenarios. There is also evidence that complex block-play is linked with advanced math skills in later life. And, blocks are great for our friends with different ability levels--everyone can play together! The storage bins allow for the children to learn how to clean up after playing with the blocks. In an event, the teachers can help clean, too. Safety is key, so having something that prevents children from tripping over loose blocks is great. The rug is a way to create a play space in the classroom. The children can sit on it as they're playing so that it's more welcoming and comfortable than a bare floor.
