As a teacher it is my priority and goal to provide a nurturing learning environment suitable for every learner centered around building a community, responsibility, and leadership. Flexible seating empowers students while also giving them the responsibility of choosing their own preferred seating which helps them learn to the best of their ability. By having a flexible seating arrangement, with various types of seating choices, this will allow my students to build responsibility and encourage independence. It will foster positive communication and relationships with their peers. Many students have difficulty sitting still for long periods of time and often lose their focus. By using bouncy bands on their chairs, it will allow the students to fulfill that need for movement, stretch their legs, and release energy in a positive way that will help control behavior issues. This will help my students to stay focused while allowing them to build confidence as learners, and motivate them to participate in daily activities. As stated in the Bouncy Bands website (http://bouncybands.com/faq) these bands “promote active learning with appropriate ways to release anxiety, energy, boredom and frustration.” To also manage these things, the use of wobble chairs and balance balls will give the students different options that adheres directly to their needs that day.
