Students are in small groups and each child has a copy of the book. By having a variety of titles to choose from we are exposing kids to books that they might not have chosen on their own. When they finish reading the designated pages the groups talk about their book using guiding questions. This helps to facilitate the discussion. Encouraging choice through reading can open a new world that kids never knew existed. When they find a story that they enjoy and can collaborate with, other peers who are reading the same novel helps them to become better thinkers.
