We are the first and only environmental science-based magnet program in Southern Oregon. Initiated by parents, our program has a unique field studies, and project-based model that already has a waiting list for next year's enrollment. I teach 3-5th grade and my partner teacher teaches K-2. We meet every morning for community time, where K-5 students, parents, and siblings are welcome to join in our singing, sharing stories, and student presentations. We do field studies every Friday when I take 45 1st-5th graders out to meet local experts and do service work. My partner teacher stays back with the Kindergarteners, while we walk, bus, and carpool to our field study location. We are a small rural, high poverty school, and many of our students have never been out of our county, let alone Oregon. We have written over $10,000 in startup grants, and are a fully funded public program open to all students.
