I currently teach PreK students ages 3-5. I service students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The students have a range of abilities. Some of my students have severe language impairment in which they communicate their needs or wants through the use of pointing or sign language. While the other students speak in 1-2 word phrases with adult modeling and/or prompting. My students have a difficult time interacting with peers and playing with toys the way they are designed. Often, staff have to facilitate social interactions with peers as well as teach how to play with a variety of toys. They learn best with the use of visuals, hands-on activities, through songs, and motor movements.
