Each week I teach my 2 Head Start/Preschool classes and my 4 Kindergarten classes for a 30 minute literature lesson. During this time I share books and sing songs with the classes. Next year this time may increase from 30 minutes to 45 minutes. With the help of this project I will be able to share more stories and songs with my students. With the use of an iPad I will be able to access an enormous array of e-books from the internet that were previously inaccessible to use during story time. I will also be able to share song that will be saved on the iPad for use between stories instead of relying on my old cd player. With this new technology, I will be able to add new cooperative learning activities to next year’s weekly story time experience. I will be able to add letter recognition games that I can do as a whole class experience instead of using flash cards and the alphabet rug that students sit on in the library. Along with letter recognition, I like to review common sight words that students need to become familiar with. In the past I relied on flash cards but with the iPad I will be able to incorporate sight word challenges in more diverse ways via the internet. I look forward to teaching my Head Start and Kindergarten students with a more high technology story time learning experience.
