I am not only a teacher to my 20+ Grade students; I am also a friend, parent, nurse, cheerleader, and support system. Our school is located in a high poverty, inner city area with 1/6th of our students living in homelessness. My school is located in the West Corridor of Charlotte NC. The West Corridor of Charlotte has been plagued with poverty for generations. It is part of a new initiative titled PROJECT LIFT. PROJECT LIFT's main goal is to increase student achieve at the schools that feed into West Charlotte High School. Currently the graduation rate at West Charlotte High school is 54 percent. PROJECT LIFT'S goal is to raise the graduation rate to 90 percent in 5 years as well as the Elementary and Middle Schools that feed into West Charlotte High School to become a 90/90/90 school (90 percent or higher free or reduced lunch, 90 percent minority and 90 percent on grade level.)
