I am so excited to receive the materials I have requested in my grant, as I have already started implementing reading journals this year and have seen incredible results! The donations to this project will help to improve my students' literacy and inspire their love of reading. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long readers. The composition books (in my request) will be used daily. Students will be given a variety of reading strategies to put in their 'Toolbox' section of the book. (Glue to be used, in my request). They will also have a 'Reading Response' section in which they will respond to what they have read. In addition, they will be creating a 'Books I want to Read' list throughout the year, and record their 'Reading Life History'. Since these composition books are loved so much during the year, students will begin the year by gluing pictures and 'laminating the covers' with the tape in my request. The books will stay nice and intact not only for one year, but as a keepsake! Students will also give 'Book Talks' to share their love of the books they read. They will include interesting passages in their book talks, in which they marked with sticky notes (in my request) while they were reading. As a teacher, I finally feel like I have a way to instill the love of independent reading. Our principal has provided professional development to achieve this dream, and it is my school's goal that every reading teacher in the building uses this model. By implementing the Reading Workshop model, my students will begin their love affair with reading! I thank you in advance!
