Breakout Boxes challenge the everyday thought process. They give students the opportunity to work together as detectives, race against the clock and find answers, open multiple locks, and ultimately solve the mystery. Our students will be given clues that involve science, math, and ELA. As a team of six or fewer, they will begin to find answers as they read and workout clues that unlock a variety of color, number, and letter locks. They will even have a black light to find hidden messages! These boxes will be filled with something to reward the students if they are able to breakout in time. This is a fun activity that engages all of our students' skill levels and can include a plethora of content knowledge. I have seen the way students work together with these boxes by accepting all suggestions and moving through problems that they are usually not motivated to do. Also, since these boxes will be used with all of my library classes, every student at our school will use and experience this creative, fun-filled learning game.
