In band every student has an impact on the entire program. Collectively their mentalities and habits breed a culture for discipline and drive for current and new students to thrive. Even more directly each instrument adds to the greater collective, influencing everything from our sound to what music we can play. Currently the band is under supplied with instruments leaving little room for growth or forcing us to borrow from other schools. There are many older instruments that are in dis-repair, with some being newer but cheaper brands which can't be repaired due to most shops lacking the parts to repair them. As the band continues to grow in number and musicianship having enough instruments to supply the needs of the students and music is essential. Quality instruments allow for better tones and less intonation issues, and are more cost effective as they are easier to maintain and repair.
What becomes good for one section of the band is ultimately good for the entire program as everything we do is done together. More trumpet instruments would allow us to recruit more students for a more supported melodic line during the Marching Season and allow us to build a trumpet ensemble. More flutes allow us to bring in students to support the upper voiced parts in the concert and marching bands. A new Marimba for example would allow the Percussion ensemble to justly perform music that calls for multiple marimbas. A ContraBass Clarinet would bring us closer to building a full Clarinet Choir while also adding one more bottom voice to the Symphonic Band. As of now bringing in new students is difficult as in many cases we do not have enough instruments for them to play, and many of the students in the area can not afford their own instruments.
