My students are limited in their musical opportunities due to the lack of instrumentation in our music room. We explore music with sound and movement by using props such as scarves and beanbags as well as classroom percussion instruments such as rhythm sticks and egg shakers. Playing pitched instruments will allow the students to gain a deeper understanding of harmonic and melodic concepts. With our lacking supply of pitched instruments, they are limited in their ability to create and explore musical concepts in a hands-on way. Students love singing and playing classroom percussion instruments, but having these melodic instruments will take their learning to the next level! Students will be able to compose music as well as learn to read written music notation. We will also be able to perform and create accompaniments to popular children’s literature which will help students increase their literacy skills. With these instruments, students will have opportunities to experience music-making in a variety of ways. They love to learn a variety of songs and especially love it when we are able to move and play games.
