I am requesting this set of books in particular because "Maniac Magee" really shows trials of a child their age and some real-world situations that they see and struggle with each day. It is still light-hearted and a fun read, but students will also see how real some of these life situations are. I want my students to understand that they are not alone in these every day struggles of a child their age and show a positive way to deal with trials that they are faced with. While reading this book, we will be focusing on inferencing, cause and effect, and reading comprehension to not only learn some real-life lessons, but to also strengthen their reading and writing skills. This book study will be split up into many weeks for focusing on different literary skills used in the book as well as strengthening reading skills.
