My students need a classroom and learning environment that is both safe and calming. They need to be able to enter class and feel relaxed and at ease. The students are not only working on grade level content, but their specific IEP goals and behavioral goals through theraputic technigues and strategies. Our current classroom has no windows, therefore no natural light sources to utilize, that is why the light covers I am requesting are so valuable. The other sensory items contribute to comfort, focus, and sensory stimulation for the students while they are engaging in the class activities for an entire 90 minute class. The impact of their classroom environment should be the last thing my students need to think about when they enter the room. Our desire is to give students the opportunity to apply all of their focus and energgy on their academics and personal goals! Research shows that florescent light impacts the behaviors of children with special needs, especially those with Autism. Also, research also supports that integrating the sensory items listed in this campaign decrease the amount of outbursts and behavioral issues.
