As we teach Writer’s Workshop to our students, we explicitly model what authentic writing looks like as a writer. However, when we want to know how to do something, having a mentor to show us can make all the difference. When students study a mentor text, they have read it through the lens of a reader and then through the lens of a writer. Student writers are able to see how the author put words together to make their writing so striking. Immersing our student writers in all these mentor texts will help them become strong authentic writers. Be a part of helping to get these Jennifer Serravallo mentor texts into our classrooms!
