My special education students range in ages between three and five years and have varying levels of abilities. They require specific instruction in fundamental academic concepts and self-help skills. They follow the same curriculum as their typically developing peers, but require much needed support. My classroom consists of one special education teacher and two assistants who work collaboratively to teach the students. Although my students have special needs, each student has the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in his/her own way. With the given supports, these students thrive as independent learners within their environment. Not only are they students, but these children are also teachers educating both their peers and other adults. My students teach others about patience, persistence, and perseverance as they work diligently to overcome any challenges they face.
